Sqeal- someone pleae help?

Guys,

During the cold weather, when i start my 110 up, i get terrible squealing. Starts a few seconds after firing up, its the aux belt doing it, but goes after a few mins, its terrible when reversing out the drive cos it sounds worse when im steering the car. The neighbours know when im leaving for work!

It had a new belt last yr and a new tensioner b4 xmas and the belt appears to be tight when engine is warm, but it does appear to be slack when i get the squealing.

Any ideas? , cos its driving me crazy.

Alternator? Cam shaft pulley?
May be worth removing the belt and turning the alternator & power steering pump by hand to see if you can spot it.
You could also use a screwdriver as a sounding rod and hold it on those parts with engine running to eliminate them.

I reckon your belts slipping a bit. May be worth checking that the tensioner is tensioning the belt up right (or are they auto-adjusting on these?).

ive already replaced auto tensioner, old one looked fine too!

Did you replace the auto tensioner because of the squealing? Did it squeal after the belt was changed?
Has the belt been checked for correct length and are you 100% sure the belt has been fitted round the pulleys correctly?

I would run it until it squeals then check the tension of the belt, if it definitely is slack, put a spanner on the tensioner to see if the tension can be changed.

One last thing, I know it sounds stupid, but have a look at the tensioner, there are 2 holes that can take a pin to release some of the tension when you want to remove the belt, in other words, to lock the tension off.....check that there isn't a pin in one of the holes.

Yes replaced it for that reason, and continued after changing the belt, was assured at local factors it was correct size belt, yes its fitted correctly, my dad did it who is an ex technician, he is baffled as to why its squealing, it does it more when moving steering wheel, esp when staionary. We thought maybe its PAS related??? The belt is definatly slack when its squealing,as i can see it! but is tight when i feel it, with engine off.

Cant say ive seen a pin in the tensioner, but will have a look when i find a chance.
