new owner needs help starting new purchase please need car

hi all just bought older tidy looking P REG 406 one problem is the person who has had the car has let the battery go flat.managed to get a couple of cranks then nothing. now i have managed to get a good charge to car via jump leads and it is turning over well but not starting / catching it is just turning over .the model is a P reg 1.8 petrol LX.is it something to do with the proramming side of thing cheers all for answers or do i need bigger battery there is red light on mid console (stereo area) flashing slowly .do i need to do some kind of special sequence or is it a dealer job thanks all again

check for a keypad immobiliser it'll be by your right knee on like a pull down flap

Be aware that car batteries REALLY don't like being flat - it destroys them making them unable to hold charge, so you could well be needing a new one especially if the battery's more than a couple of years old
