Cam cup removal (2.0 Petrol Turbo Engine)

Post by Chaz »

Hi all,

Trying to strip down the pugs engine and struggling to remove the 5th cam cup (the one at the distributor). Ive removed I think 3 or 4 bolts that go into the side of the engine but the cam cup wont move up. Its moved up a bit but it looks like this whole unit needs to come out at the same time?

The tourque bolts (or rods) that hold the plastic distributor on / closed - these are basically seized - I cannot get them open. Can I still remove this lot without taking this off? I dont want to break it in case someone might be interested to buy some of these bits.

Should the cam, once the 5 cups are loosened be removable or does the metal area on the side of the head also need to be lifted? Some gentle tapping and prying suggests that more has to come off.

Thanks

yes you need to remove the distributor as theres bolts under it to remove the thermo housing only then will u be able to get the cam out. also becareful when putting it back together as i snaped one of my cam caps. which resulted in me having to buy a new head.

So to confirm, the plastic bit has to be opened as there is another bolt inside there to be loosened?

Thanks for the info.

unbolt the four bolts holding the distributer (two of mine were seized also end i up having to cut the top of the nuts of to remove) remove the distributer this comes off as a complete unit. There then should be two bolts visible, undo them remove the thermo housing. then you should be able to get the last cap off and remover the cam.
