my peugeot 406 hdi estate is no longer starting.it justs turns over but wont start at all.i called a friend who came to have a look at it yesterday and he thinks that it might be the fuel pressure solenoid thats blocking the diesel from going to the injectors.the diesel pump in the engine compartment is a Bosch 1 and we tried to start it with easy start but it just cranked and started for less the 20 seconds and it ceased again.
he tested the injectors and he says they are fine including the glow plugs.the issue now is, is it the fuel pressure solenoid or its the complete pump that wil need to be changed.
any help is appreciated .the car has been driving fine all along without any problems at all.

That sounds like another lift pump failure to me :(

when you turn your key to the start position ,with out starting the engine
you should hear a low hum noise as the in tank pump pressures the system
if you cant then it could be the pump is on its way out , lift the rear drivers
side passenger seat , you will see access hatch to pump remove and gently
tap the pump then see if it hums when you turn the key .

hie guys i have lifted the rear driver's side seat and turned the key without starting and i can hear the humming sound from the intank pump pressurising and therefore i can eliminate that 1 unless i can tap it maybe it will start.
we will try tomorrow the inetia switch and possibly engine fuse No 10 cause on a different thread a certain guy was having similar problems im currently facing and it turned out to be the inetia switch.
if that doesnt help then we will move on to the fuel pressure solenoid and possibly lift pump and fuel filter but im contemplating towing it to the garage to be read on a diagnosis machine first. If i call an AA man do you think guys his scanner can be able to tell wats the possible problem is

The AA's scanner can see the fuel rail pressure and cranking pressure and immobiliser status, you can verify the in tank pump by watching the fuel filter housing closely as someone turns the ignition on as the in tank pump should cause it to swell up slightly under the 50psi of fuel pressure it generates

otherwise, post your location, if your near Warminster in Wiltshire, i have Actia and can do live data and error codes if your nearby, otherwise there might be another member near that can do it for you

I know this maybe totally irrelevant due to it being a different car, but a friend had a similar sounding issue with a clio a few months back down to a dodgy imobiliser mr AA just disconnected the battery for five minutes, maybe worth a try? although im sure someone who knows abit more can clarify or prove that wrong.

When I had the wrong fuel filter housing in it didn't want to start, so check all the pipes in and out of the fuel filter housing are in tight correctly and aren't split and that there aren't air bubbles in the fuel lines (and you haven't got an outlet capped off because it was the wrong fuel filter housing! )
