If the temp gauge on your dash wasn't reading anything then I reckon it's the coolant temperature sensor or it's associated wiring.

It's in the passenger-side wing mirror, on the bottom (there should be a kind of bump on the bottom of the mirror housing that is only there on that side).

There's a fair few posts on these forums about how to replace them. It's something I've been meaning to do for over a year now

Greame

I think your getting confused mate, its the engine coolant temp sensor they are on about not the outside temp sensor.

Do keep up old chap :P :P

Hello
The mil light will come on when the ECU gets a number of repeated DTCs, if it goes out the good news is the fault has not re occurred following a number of driving events. If you get a scanner you can see what offending DTCs caused it since it will be captured on a freeze frame event. You can also remove the DTCs with the scanner and wait to see if they reoccur. As with any electronic device many signals can be triggered with a false signal and the system will allow for this.
Hope this will reassure you.

On my 90 it's in the thermostat housing, or thereabouts. It's relatively cheap, the aggro is draining and refilling the coolant then getting all the air out. Best tip is to get the car so the header tank is higher than owt else in the cooling circuit.

Or you can bodge up half a plastic bottle to jam in the header tank filler neck (plus some duct tape of course - never leave home without it) and thus get the coolant level above the rest of the system (radiator, heater matrix and so on).

I know there's a fair few threads on here about this and I've just noticed that Jasper5 (who is seriously knowledgable) has posted about refilling and draining in the heater matrix thread close by...
