Re: Air Con-fusion
One thing I do know it that 'they' assemble the new joints (called Pad fittings with O rings) using a dab of refigeration oil.
You should be able to drain some out of the old condenser but make sure it's super-clean stuff.
Think it just keeps the O ring sweet whilst you're fitting - save dislodging the thing or crimping it awkwardly.
Other that this I have no advice
Good luck!

Re: Air Con-fusion
Well I got the cndenser....
Notice my car's not on the list on the label but I,m pretty certain it's the right one.
Tried to order 2 sets of seals just, to be on te safe side, from Marshall Peugeot, Huntingdon.
"Not in stock, sir," - "Can you order them?" <silence> "Er haven't you heard - were closing down, not allowed to have anything on back order."
He relented after a few minutes upon discovering they were in stock within the group, so I can pick them up tomorrow
Last night I tried to remove the pipes from the 2nd hand condenser I had, partly for practice, partly so I'd recognise the correct seals as you can't make out the drawing on ServicePox. Got one out after lots of hammering & couldn't shift the other Anybody know an easy way?
I suspect taking the studs out would allow you to twist the joint and free it easily. This (OE) condenser had studs with serations, like a torx driver on the end, the Valeo one has screwdriver slots, don't know about the one on the car yet.

Re: Air Con-fusion
Went round to the Peugeot garage & picked up my seals after a bit of a wait.......
(They were having trouble with ServiceBox & one of their IT guys was trying to sort it via VNC
- there IS a god)
Anyway, good job I ordered 2 of each, cos that's exactly what you need.
Thought I'd pick up a set of lamps for the MFD while I was at it, but they only had one.
'Have that one on me, Sir', he said, cos of no ServiceBox
You can't lose them all.....

Re: Air Con-fusion
Good man. The condenser will be the same across the whole range as it's sized for the car's cabin not the engine size.
I can see a nice how-too thread coming soon with pics..........

Re: Air Con-fusion
Well the Condenser's done & Doggy's got aircon
But unfortunately not climate
Turned the set temp up to 24 & it still blows cold. Now Im sure I read somewhere on here about the interior temp sensor / fan in the overhead console, so I had a butchers:
There's the air inlet...
& there's the fan jammed up with dust. Note the bead thermistor that senses the temp. in front of the impeller...
Utilise Doggy's patented sensor service kit, (I couldn't find a straw so blew it out peashooter style with a stripped down Bic biro). Here it is nice & clean and it works!
Thinking I'm on a roll here, I'll just replace the failed middle lamp behind the MFD. Out it comes, swaps lamp and hey presto....
The r/h one's gone
(Before you all tell me, I was gonna swap all three, but the nice man from Peugeot only had 2, so I bought 1)
Now I know what the MF in MFD stands for

Re: Air Con-fusion
Just read your condenser swap-out thread.....Brilliant work Doggy
And this likkle fan thing too! just clean it and it works? I'd have though it would have burnt out long ago
You did well by the way to swap the condenser AND get down the air con place

Re: Air Con-fusion
It's not unusual with really small motors as they don't absorb enough power to burn out - most central heating motorised valves sit stalled in the open position the whole time they're energised. ( I'll qualify that with excluding the 3-way variety before someone 'enlightens' me)Welly wrote:And this likkle fan thing too! just clean it and it works? Re: Air Con-fusion
Small motors are however notorious for knackering their bearings when subjected to temperature changes. Computer motherboard northbridge 40mm fans have exceptionally short lifespans, and the overhead one in my coupe was shot too causing the expected grinding noisedogslife wrote:It's not unusual with really small motors as they don't absorb enough power to burn out

If I were a more plausible liar, I'd tell you it was the result of meticulous planning. Still, I'm not too upsetteamster1975 wrote:Well done for sorting your aircon doggy! I bet your glad it's working for this week!!
Still a bit unsure the climate bit's delivering according to plan though. What's the normal behaviour?
I imagine if you start up on a real hot day, with the set temp. on say 20 deg., a/c should cut in & fan run at high speed initially, but what does it do as the inside temp. approaches set value? Does the fan speed drop? Does the compressor cycle in & out and if it does, does the A/C symbol of the display remain on?
I'm a beginner here, first 406 & the a/c didn't work when I bought it. Despite owning 30+ cars, most of them high spec, I've never had one with a/c that worked!
Very enlightening, thank you.The poster formerly known as Welton wrote:It's known as a Mid-Position valve actually.dogslife wrote:3-way
