another newbie

Post by ade »

Hello to everybody
Looks like a great site with loads of good advice. I have a 2002 52reg 406hdi 90 Rapier estate 117,000 miles. Sorry to get straight to the point but have a problem. Recently I have had a few niggles rear wiper activating when the trip computer button is depressed switch I guess as on the same stalk. The heater blower and air direction system has stopped working on the climate control, and now an immobiliser fault. This is where I need some help, went out yesterday to have a look check fuses etc to see if I could get the blower working and the immobiliser fault appeared also the central locking won't work on the plip, could be by chance or could I have disturbed something, some computerised black box gizzmo connection. Seems the system has lost its key learning I have also tried the spare key but still the same. I would check the connections on central locking box etc if I knew where they were.

Sorry to get straight to the point but need suggestions and hheeelllp

Hi Ade, welcome to the club :D

Sounds like a BSI fault to me :frown: Try resetting it, instructions here viewtopic.php?f=10&t=10968&p=97438&hili ... set#p97438

Hope that helps :?

Hi there Ade, welcome :cheesy:

In reverse order: You have two plips for your car? Do either of them start it or do they both bring up the immobiliser fault? There's a re-synch procedure in the handbook for the remote, I don't think the two issues are related but... :?

If the cabin fan's dead then I gather the common problem is the ignition switch contacts, remove the cowling and give the wires a wiggle to see if the fan does anything.

Sounds like your wiper stalk has something loose inside. Do your stalks look like this:

Gah, sniped by Dai, no less. Plenty of stuff to look at before the rolled-up trouser leg procedure :P

Thanks for your help, I had the system reset by laptop and the key code reset all is now well with the central locking and immobiliser, no reason for this happening hopefully a one off. Like the link for the BSI reset will try this if it happens again.
Steve yes my stalks are the same as the photo I will try your suggestion, not sure with the heater maybe a control box as the fan and cabin direction are not working.

One other point I have owned this car for almost seven years and covered 100,000 miles in it, apart from servicable items it has never given me any trouble this is without doubt the best car I have owned!! I guess its just getting a bit long in the tooth, bit like me I suppose.

Blast :( That's a com2000, they're hideously expensive. Usually it's the indicator side that messes up, I replaced mine a couple of years back for this reason and it's still sitting here with a perfectly good wash/wipe stalk. If I get time I'll pull it to bits and see if it could be a mechanical fault.

The only ecu is in the control panel. Maybe a plug fell out...
