Hi all. Newbie here

Post by Frankie4Fingers »

Hi all. Newbie joining your site.
I have just brought, well, swapped my vectra, for my first Peugeot. Its a 406 Estate HDI 90. 200,000 miles on the clock but seems sound enough. Has the usual front anti roll bar links knocking and the interior heater doesn't work but I'm pretty sure someone on here can point me in the right direction on how to repair the heater switch.

I am impressed so far with the amount of miles per gallon the motor returns, makes the vectra look shamefull lol.
So much so that I'm going to look at a 306HDI this weekend coming for the other half...

Look forward to chatting with the members of 406.co.uk.

I'm off to the technical threads now for info on running this motor on WVO and Bio.
I run my Mitsi Shogun on WVO and a friends Mondeo and want to know if it is possible to run my 406HDI 90 on it.
I have the Siemens injection system.

Hello and welcome on in :cheesy: ,

sorry to be the typer of bad news but it said the HDI really doesnt like WVO, its ok on well made bio i have heard,

but dont take my word for it some of the Veg-Heads will be along soon enough to give some sound advice.

The HDI really does give cracking MPGs anyway

Hi & welcome to the site. 8)

Disco's right about veg oil - a 1.9TD's what you need for that, (but the HDi will give great mpg on the 'spensive stuff').

Same with the 306 BTW, except 306 1.9's have Lucas pumps which don't thrive on veg oil either.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Hiya mate,
the hdi wont like pure bio, best bet is to mix it with ordinary derv.
ive had problems with mine running it on pure bio its best to get some research in on this before putting any in,

I found a company in Derby who are listed as selling bio. Called them this morning and they said they no longer sell it.
Does anyone know anywhere local to nottinghamshire that sells Bio??

Going to filter my WVO down today to 1 micron and try it as a 80% Derv/20%WVO mix and go from there.
As far as I can work out, it's only the consistancy (thickness) of the WVO that causes problems with the pumps.
If I can thin it out enough to the consistancy of Diesel I can't see any issues with running my HDI on WVO.

I will repost at some point during the week and let you know how I got on and if the motor is still running lol...

Anything other than full fat Diesel appears a no no for HDi's/common rail's in general although I don't know of anyone who's experimented with different fuels as they are quickly put off by tales of expensive HP pumps and sensitive Piezo injector nozzles.
