Hello

Post by samosizer »

Hi Guys,
i am sam and i have just got my wife a 1997 (R) 2.1 diesel saloon 406 it used to be my dads and needs a little bit of tlc to get it back up to scratch (needs all new bushes on the back and the speedo is messing around)
it already has alloys from a v6 coupe and i am part way through fitting the brembos from the same coupe but have accidentally broken the hard pipe on the drivers front already so will need to go to a peugeot dealer and buy a new one. i have also fitted some tinted side windows from another 406.
i will post up some pictures when all is sorted out and running properly

Good to see someone else with a 2.1TD! Thought they were getting a bit scarce on here :)

Pics would be great, how many miles has it done? The speedo thing is a common fault and will be one of two things, either the vehicle speed sensor or dry solder joints on the instrument panel. Both pretty easily fixed at little to no cost :)

They're great cars, hope you enjoy it.

thanks for the welcome.
i do not yet know the mileage as it doesnt come up i think the bulb has gone but i believe its somewhere in the region of 150-175k.
thanks for the info on the speedo will try that when i have sorted out the brakes just fitted the front passenger caliper no damage this time luckily but i broke the locking wheel nut tool trying to undo the first rear bolt andit started to rain hard again so i called it a day.
also forgot to say i am in baldock, hertfordshire.

Here's a pic of the back of the instrument cluster so you know what to expect when you remove it.

There are 6 of the large 501 type bulbs for general backlighting, the others are 509T T5 twistlock type. (This is what you'll need for the odo - the one just below the blue connector.)

pop in halfords mate,
they sell a tool that gets locking nuts off, around 16 quid iirc,
or ask at local tyre places they might have the tool to get them off,

picked up the pipe from peugeot today and its just a copper pipe coiled up in a bag with standard end fittings and flares so i will have got to get my brother over to help me with a brake pipe bending tool and maybe put in some extra supports with it being copper instead of steel then we shall see if its the correct length of which i have no doubt it is.
but that will have to wait a little while as i have something very important to sort out that requires eveything else to be put on hold until it is sorted out.
