Hi new member

Post by Madmas »

Hi all,
Just joined, as I find myself needing help.
Prices for mechanics locally are high, so will have to learn as I go! (locally being Dordogne).
Situation I have is, rear wheel bearing grinding. Have lifted car and rotated wheel so is def the bearing. Searched internet for info and find there are two types 29 and 48 teeth. How do I know which I have. Is it a case of take all apart or can I see without such drastic resorts?

Thanks in advance
Madmas.

Welcome!

First thing - are you sure it's the bearing and not a rusty drum backplate rubbing on the disc? This is particularly common on these cars.

As for the reluctor rings, it's best to put your VIN into ServiceBox and have a look. Sign up for a free account and go to Free Services > Replacement Parts Documentation: http://public.servicebox.peugeot.com/ Or PM me your VIN and I'll have a look for you :)

Hi thanks for the reply.

Its definately the bearing.
Had a look at servicebox but it says new site opening soon for private individuals !
So which option is the free one?
Cannot PM yet as only just joined.

Hi there :cheesy:

I dunno about private individuals but mine is set up as an indipendant operator and I'm not getting any warnings :?

Early cars 29 teeth, later cars 48 teeth. Your profile says 2003, they don't come much later...

(Incidentally, the reluctors on the drive shafts are much easier to look at and have the same number of teeth as the rear hubs)

Madmas PM'ed me his VIN, here's the hub on ServiceBox:

The part number (3748.68) seems to show that it's 48 teeth: http://www.autopartoo.com/oem/peugeot/374868nqr.html
