Newbie here

Post by Pugman406 »

Hi,

Ive just bought my X reg, 2.0 HDI, (110) with 129k on the clock, with FSH.

Very happy with it, drives well, Only one thing thats annoying me, is that it keeps saying 'brake fluid level low', although ive checked and its fine, anybody know what is causing this, a faulty switch maybe ?

Will be giving it a service of my own soon, new air and fuel filter, and a oil and filter change.

Anthing else i need to know about these cars :?:

Any help much appreciated.

:) Dave

Hi Dave, welcome aboard :cheesy:

The brake fluid level thing is, apparently, the handbrake switch, common proceedure is to work the handbrake up and down like a loon.

When you do the fuel filter change it's best practice to change the whole thing, body as well. Apparently the high pressure pump will take offence to the slightest speck of dust, so just opening it up and slipping a new cartridge in isn't recommended.

It should have a pollen filter too, something else for your list...

Have a look through these here boards, you'll soon discover what you've let yourself in for

Welcome in!!

The old BRAKE FLUID LEVEL LOW is a favourite on here and in my experience with my car it tends to come and go. In fact mine hasn't done it for around 18 months I reckon - following it saying the message every day and me giving it a really pissed off one hell of a work out one morning

Ultimately you should change the micro switch (lots of faffing and fiddling with interior trim etc) and about £2.50 of your hard earned.

Filters wise definately buy the fuel filter + housing and exersise extreme cleanliness.

Here's my head about the pollen filter which might help viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3870&p=37017&hilit= ... ter#p37017

Thanks for the info.

I changed the Pollen filter yesterday, it was very black lookingand full of muck and crap, i dont reckon it had been changed for some time. As for the brake fluid warning, i can put up with it for now, but i guess it will piss me off eventualy, so will get it sorted one day!

Thanks
