Post by dragonslayer »

Hi guys im new to the site i just bought a peugeot 406 excutive on an r reg.its and estate model and a petrol.i just need to replace the top hose as that has split but im happy with the car.its the first time i bought a french car.is there any thing i should look out for and im good at diy mechanics so fxing isnt a problem
i only paid £380 for it with mot till may and 6 months tax.the car is in really good order and drives fine as i have bodged the pipe up until i fix it properly
i also do led switch conversions so this car will have led switches modified

I assume that's the 2.0 turbo?

If it is then it'll serve you well but leave it alone (engine wise) and watch your right foot (can be juicy).

There are a few issues like leaky radiators, engine mounts, irratic idle etc but mostly they can be nursed along with very little effort.

What's the old led switches?

Do a search on here - there's been several threads on the subject. Basically you'll need to shove your head under the passenger footwell, take the blower out, solder the main power connector (big red wire) on, and re-fit it.

Welcome dragonslayer! You got that for a good price!
As Welly mentioned the top & bottom hoses are common failures as well as the rad (I've done them all bar the top hose which I'm waiting on  )
Check out where the bottom hose connects to the rad, it likes to rust and piss coolant out, damned conrad fittings :frown:
