Re: Hello S.Wales newbie
Mine was all lower left leg which I mainly kind of shattered just below my knee, with breaks further down (fibula still broken, doesn't do much apparently). I also dislocated my right hip, widest splits evarr. I had a pin for almost a year which is about how long it took me to walk without crutches. It was nearly another year before I got back to work but that's mainly because the dipshits couldn't find something for me to do that didn't involve climbing ladders, in the meantime I rebuilt a 1953 Matchless to pass the time.
Quint: You wanna drink? Drink to your leg.
Hooper: I'll drink to your leg.
Quint: Okay, so we drink to our legs!
Tips: small fish with edible bones (I miss pilchards
) plus anything with calcium in it (mmmm, cheese
) and comfrey tabs from the health food store.

Moving about on it is a good idea, the slight flex of the bone helps the healing process (don't overdo it tho!). I had all sorts of problems because my foot dropped - I couldn't put my foot flat to the ground so putting weight on it was painful for a long time. I could hobble about the house before a year (christ, this is 16 years ago now
) but just like you, never far from my crutches. I had a walking stick for a long time after that (hey, an excuse to carry an offensive weapon
) which I still have somewhere, just in case.
As I say, I could have gone back to work earlier but for my employers but I guess every case is different.

Re: Hello S.Wales newbie
i had drop foot too but where they put the pin in my leg they have damaged the nerves so i've lost all feeling from my ankle down so made it hard to try an excersise foot ankle/foot back to normal.
I was eager to get back working on the cars so i removed an engine from my project 306 over the christmas holidays, my dad was there to do all the heavy lifting etc but it was great to just get back on the spanners
i just took 6 pain killers before starting

Good lad! That's what we like to hear! Whats happened regarding the crash? Who was to blame, what does the Police report say happened as I know you are/were slightly hazy about the minutes leading up to the crash. Most importantly, have you been paid out yet?!

Boredom's the biggest problem so it's good to have something to keep your hands busy. I hope you get back to driving before too long as that was a big moral booster for me.
They cut the nerves below my knee when the put the pin in, the left side of my lower leg and part of my foot was numb for a few years, it still doesn't feel quite right but I'm used to it. The scars from where they put the fixing screws in my ankle are still tender too.
Remember to ask for the pin before you have it taken out - I asked after but they'd already shipped it off for recycling. I have some of the screws tho
