Hello 406 owners.
I have just joined the Peugeot fold with the purchase of a mint 1997 2.1td saloon.
I have great faith in that engine as I have ran in the past a good few Citroen xms that gave brilliant economy and reliability with the 2.1td engine.
I look forward to good times with our new car, usual reliability of a Citroen with NO up and down hydraulics and pipes and spheres and things yuck.
Its good to be find such a website it looks like the right place to be for any 406 owner.
Thanks Gary

Re: Hello New to the forum
Thanks for the welcome all,
Our recent cars have been over the last say 5 years
a 1994 2.1td xm hatch manual/super reliable after a couple of years had to let it go as the clutch was starting to slip(caravan towing annually(
another 1994 2.1td xm hatch auto /same again super reliable, but impending holiday dragging the c,van to Brittany cause panic over the dire reputation the auto gearbox has and I let that car go to a friend.
Next car was a Renault espace 2.2dci just in time to journey down to Brittany.
My dear family where appalled at the ride of the espace ,after the magic carpet ride of the xms no doubt,so with it slipping into limp mode now and then, that spelled goodbye to the espace, awful car.
Then we bounced back to another xm (family vote) this time a 2.5td vsx estate 1996 vintage.
This car went like a train in supreme comfort........until the clutch started slipping whilst fully loaded.
I reluctantly purchased a new clutch ouch and slaved away removing the engine and box to fit it,what a nightmare.
The car was back on the road for ooh er a week! then comes the mot ?????
The test was cancelled half way through (luckily no fee) because the cooling fans kicked in too late and short to prevent the car from throwing scodling water out of the overflow.I had warned the mot inspector.
I drove the car a few miles home and left the car ticking over to see if the cooling fans would kick in?
It didn't get that far,a pipe burst underneath( mot bloke must have been poking around) and my drive was awash with green LHM oil.
That was the end of that car as it had consumed too much of my time already, much too much.
I browsed auto trader and ebay and the honest John website and arrived at the conclusion I wanted a 406 pre hdi as the less hasssle the better.
I found the car I bought quite local to me in Preston.Lancs ,called the seller on ebay and it was a friend (old workmate ) from years ago, amazing.
He had bought the car for his dad but his dad had lost his license .The car is mint and low mileage, doesn't use Lhm or hiss and click at you when you are waiting at the lights, hasn't got the ability to slip into limp mode.
So I am pretty chuffed with it,and look forward to trouble free turn the key and go motoring.
Again thank you for the welcome.
Gary.
