Newbie

Post by v6phil »

Just thought I come and say hi. I have a 98 S 406 estate 3.0l v6 in blue. Only had it a couple of days, but its growing on me I think!
Usually riding around in a mercedes 190e 2.6, but coming back from Chedder on sunday, my oil cooler pipe burst, and I had to be dragged home :(

Bought the 406 as a stop gap car, but as I said, the full leather interior and electric everything, is growing on me.

I WILL be asking questions!! :cheesy:

Congratulations - you've picked up possibly one of the best cars on the road. I still don't know whether I'd prefer my v6 coupe or a v6 estate, but I did love my tubby estate. A lot!

How much did you pay for it?

I didnt pay a lot, in fact it was less than my beloved merc :supafrisk:
Lets just say, it was less than £500!!

I do have a problem with the oil gauge. Are they prone to breaking, or is it just the fact that my car has done 150,000 miles?
Also, the heated seats dont heat. The lights are on, but no heat!

Any ideas? Any help much appreciated.

Nice! Average price for 'em would be about £600-700 at the moment

Level or temperature?

When you turn the ignition on, the gauge lights up and shows you the level (take with a pinch of salt) for 15 seconds, then it shows the temperature. In my experience it takes a fair while for the oil to warm up to the point it raises the needle. I've only seen the gauge go over half way when stuck in traffic for hours on a scorching day (think 40c) or when the speedo's been off the end of the scale for a sustained period on the autobahn (these cars can out-run BMW M3s when they hits their speed limiter, but don't try to out-accelerate one  )
Also, the heated seats dont heat. The lights are on, but no heat!
Common fault and not easy to fix sadly, although you could try fiddling with the connectors under the front of the seat as well as the one at the back joining the base to the backrest...

 That's cheaper than I'm expecting to pay for the clutch change  Mind you it's probably in need of a new cambelt...
