Hello!

Post by humanfly »

Hey guys, just thought I would introduce myself, as I have been browsing the forum for a few days now. :supafrisk:

I am a first time Pug owner, I live in Nottingham and... well, that's all for now. :cheesy:

I recently wrote off my car, which was a 2000 Seat Ibiza Sport, and so took the opportunity to grab the estate we so badly needed (1 toddler, 1 dog, semi-regular motorway trips with weekend luggage), and bought a '99 estate in Topaz blue this week. It was a toss up between the 406 and a Mondeo, but I have really liked 406's ever since I saw the film 'Taxi' a few years back... so I feel I made the right choice.

So, that's it really, but I'd like to say thanks to the forummers who posted the solution to the fuel flap issue (worked a charm!), and also for all the info on how to swap the OEM stereo for an aftermarket CD player; I will be purchasing all the relevant bits next week!

Cheers, and happy pugging!

Hello and welcome to the site. Can't believe you almost bought a Mondeo instead!

The misses had a 'R' Registered 2.0 LX mondeo hatch and then a 'S' Registered ST24 (2.5 V6) hatch.

Great handling cars, more so the latter.

Usual rust though!

The 406 is a better class of car imo. Depending on how its trimmed, ie my 'X' Rapier is far better looking inside than the wifes 'W' GLX estate.

Now we both have Peugeots and we both swore upto about 7 months ago we was NEVER going to buy French... and almost deffo not a PUG!

We both made the change from Performance Petrols (mine was a 260hp Volvo T5 and the misses ST24 mondeo.)

Sure, its slower been a 90 HDi Diesel but its quiet, refined and good fuel economy!

Now ive been 'enlighten' if we had the choice of a MK2 Mondeo vs D9 (mk2) 406 Diesel... it would be the 406.

Hello and welcome 8)

What flavour 406 did you get?
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Thanks for the warm welcome fellas!

It sounds like I have made the correct choice then, HimBigChief? :D Although, I still like the look of the new Mondeos.

Bruce, it's interesting that you 'downgraded' as such but are more pleased with the 406 now. I too find that it is a quiet comfy ride, although pleasantly stiff in the suspension (I can't stand cars with soft rides). Also, what do you get with the Rapier trim please?

And, dogslife, I bought the 2.0 diesel as recommended by pretty much every car-centric website I visited. It's only an LX but as I understand, it's fairly easy to upgrade the trim?

The Humanfly.
