new member sorry about the length lol

Post by kbekl »

well this isnt the first pug i have owned i have had a few over the years some good some bad and 1 really bad lol

i am karl and i live in cornwall at the min but with a move upto manchester due in 2 weeks i thought it was about time i got shot of the 806 that has caused me no end of greif bought it 1 yr ago and from the second day it was a night mare with stalling when it wanted and all the electrics playing up constantly and about 10 hrs in the garage thought it was about time to get shot :frown: lol

well i have now just bought a 1999 406 2.0 110 hdi and i do enjoy the drive and confort but it has a few niggaly problems 1 st one is it is on a 2nd MAF in 2 mths not sure why and the garage wont fix under warrant due to water being in the unit (not too sure how it gets in their as they didnt bother to check the first or second time it was replaced). is their a way to clear the ecu memory when i swap the part myself or do i need to go to the garage to have it cleared ??

my step dad took it to manchester airport whilst they were away and the battery died so the radio lost its code but have been told that this is a vin coded unit so this shouldnt have happened

the intermitent wiper seems to work when it wants to not in the original way lol but will go fast when their is no need to

i know these cars have a 7 seat option but can you diy these to accept the seats with out too much hassel basicly buy the seats and bolt them in place or is their no mounts in the car if it hasnt been done in the factory ?

well other than that i enjoy the drive from the car especially the economy i get from it and the power from the hdi unit is great

Welcome to you Karl! :)
You're right about the radio, on D9's the radio is coded to the BSI so no code to punch in.

sounds like you have an auto wiper, not intermittent... works by a sensor at the top of the windscreen trying to work out the density of water on the screen
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

It should just work when you reconnect the battery! If it isn't it may need recoding to the bsi, main stealer job :(
To be honest if that's the case I'd just stick with your own head unit!

Just to add if this is the case you need to turn the wipers off and back on when you start the car to reset the sensor (if you left them on when you stopped the engine!)

D8's have a slatted front grille and D9's have a honeycomb grille, D9's also have a body coloured strip through the rear light clusters.

Hi Karl & welcome 8)
teamster1975 wrote:D9's also have a body coloured strip through the rear light clusters.
Saloons only, I'm afraid.
Do pay attention, Teamy :P

D9 head unit is a Clarion & if not coded to the BSI will still work, but beep every few seconds until re-coded correctly. The D8 unit is a Philips, (I think), which will need a code.

The engine management light should clear itself after perhaps 10 journeys without a fault.

Computer upgrade is probably possible, but you really need to know the exact model you've got first.

HTH
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)
