Hi

Post by ockerron »

Hi to everyone from a newbie in sunny Gloucestershire. Just bought a "s reg" 406 v6 saloon which is in not too bad nick. My problem is i know nothing about this model, or even which model it is!!!! it has the full leather interior, air-con, cd changer, cruise control etc etc, is this the executive model, and are there any particular problems i should look out for? thanks in advance for any answers, cheers,

Replace the top (pear-shaped) engine mount as these engines eat them for breakfast, and get some tippex and draw a line across the bottom pulley so you can see if it starts to slip (it's a 2-piece construction).

If you want to change spark plugs, you'll need an intake manifold gasket from the dealers (only about £3, but they may not keep them in stock), and be aware that these engines have a habit of filling the spark plug wells with oil, so you may want to check that and re-seal the rocker covers when you do the plugs. It can also be cause by filling oil without a funnel, or a leaky filler cap though...

Other than that, they're solid engines.
