Hiya!
Hi all, just picked up an '01 406 HDi saloon as a work hack.
Not had a pug in a loooooong time, but with fuel costing 1.20 a litre round my way, it was time to ditch the petrol guzzlers and get a diesel. Nice to be here, hopefully I can help with any problems I have experience of and pick your brains at the same time on 406 matters!
Im an engineer, into turbines and engine management systems, so hopefully I will be able to help with sensor faults and the like - and someone here can tell me what the screen in the centre should be showing, what buttons control it and what the other buttons do! They seem to have heiroglyphics on them, and the screen says "22mph" and "37.6oC" all the time....even when not moving...;)

Re: Hiya!
Hi there, welcome aboard
Engine management huh? I think we can use you...
Do you have a button with two arrows on the end of your wiper stalk? This scrolls through the function, there should be two buttons either side of the screen, left you hold to change stuff, when it starts blinking you use this button to go through the settings, the right's for changing/zeroing. I think that's right, my handbook's in Italian
22mph could be your average speed but I think 37 degrees odd probably means the temperature sender's had it. It's in the passenger wing mirror, the wires are all the way inside the door so folks generally clip the wires off & solder the new one it.

Hello & Welcome
Sounds like you don't have a handbook - if you have a quick search on here for ServiceBox, (which you're probably going to want for other stuff, Doggy hinted ominously, you should be able to view a pdf version, at least one from a 2002 car anyways).

Welcome in. The on board comp is excellent for understanding your driving. Dont know how I ever did without one. Def need a new temp sensor. You'll find it in the wing mirror in the passenger door. Its a little nipple at the bottom. Im sure you'll be able to find it by search but if you need mroe details or help just ask. You got a nice welcome in the coupe club yesterday Dai!! Im liking it there too

Yeah it's OK, loads of info there and appears to be lots of good guys. Doesn't seem to have the same atmosphere at here though, but then again I've never found another forum that does...

Re: Hiya!
Thanks lads for the welcome and the info!
Superb, I did think the stalk was for the cd player volume, plus the night illumination on the computer is gone....so a wee job there I feel.
I also seem to have the old "flappy sill seals" nonsense, I noticed as I jumped out of the car in the dark....and was lassooed to the ground by a mysterious black rubber material.......LOL. A quick flick thru the forum revealed my attacker to be the sill seal. Oh well...
Yah so any help I can give in the electronics / ems side is no problem. I also have an OBD2 scan / diagnostic tool so if anyone needs a code scan, and is in the county of Fife, or happy (and able) to drive to me if they are further away, I am more than glad to scan their motor for nowt.
;)
