Hiya everyone,

I'm Phil from Washington- Tyne & Wear
I've just joined this forum, as i've had a peugeot 406 for the last 3 years and it's starting to play up a bit , and i would like some great info,
on how i can fix it myself without going to a main dealer.

The model is 1996- 1.9 TD L Saloon with 185000 miles on clock.
The main problem is that water has appeared in the drivers footwell.
I've took the rear light lenses off and cleaned and sealed them and re-fitted them.
The car has a sunroof, but i've yet to check the drain traps or the pipework.

I've read somewhere on this forum that there are drain holes on the underside of the car , but i've yet to find them too!.

Any one else had the same problem as me?.
Thanks in advance for any help or advice given.

Welcome on in Phil!
IIRC the sill drain holes are near the rear jacking points, steve_earwig found them when he was patching up his sills.

Hi there Phil!

Those are for the sills, they are back and front of each sill, just under the end of the arch liners. If you run your fingers back on the inside of the bottom seam you should feel 'em. I don't reckon that's going to help much though, unless you have goldfish living in your sills...

You could just tip a bottle of water in the sun roof hole and make sure it disappears The other favourite is the aerial base leaking.

Thanks to all you guys who have answered my post.

I think it may be the sunroof drain pipes ,as i've yet to check them. I did remove the "a-frame" plastic trim from the sides of the windscreen,but did'nt pull the rubber pipe away from the hole,in case i damaged them.I will check the pollen filter, too as this may be a problem. Don't know if 1996 models have pollen filters, as my car doesn't have air-con or even central-locking!

The strange thing is that i have had the car for over the last 3 years without so much of any trouble, and then one day you find water INSIDE your car!.
Obviously now i know this is a common problem,but it's great to know that there is an excellent bunch of people here wanting to give informative advice about your car!.

Hi Phil & Welcome

I had a blocked sunrooof drain on the drivers side - the rubber pipe took a LOT of pulling out, but came free and was easily cleaned in the end.

Just a thought, the drain on the air con. If it's blocked the condensation will build up and spill into the car.

My car hasnt got air-con, and the puddle inside is not dis-coloured so i don't think that it's from inside the heater matrix.
I haven't managed to remove the drivers side carpet cos it's quite fiddly,but there is definately water underneath the carpet!.

Hi Dogslife,

The head liner is not wet or damp, and the water is not seeping through from the aerial, i'm definately at a loss from where the water is coming from!.
I will check the rubber pipe next (driver side) to make sure this is not blocked!.

Dur, yeah, you said. Hopefully it'll be the sunroof drain 'cos we're running out of ideas!
