Hi there, welcome aboard :cheesy:

Do we get any clues on your engine? (Apart from power excluding diesels  )

Hello Steve.
firstly thanks for the welcome, the engine is a 1.8 petrol, i've left it standard apart from the usual service stuff from europarts. 110,500 on the clock, but lacks the power it used to have. :? was overtaken the other day by a boy racer in a mini 850 :( again .

Same engine as mine, same year as mine, same trim level as mine. Have you stolen my car? :cheesy:

The 1.8 does lack in power, so when something's up, you really feel it. Have you had your exhaust checked out? If it's leaky, that can do it. I just replaced the rear section of my exhaust (the section after the catalytic converter, plus the back box and tail) with a Powerflow stainless steel system. No more rust holes in the exhaust pipe, and I've got a much smoother feeling car.

Might also want to run a half bottle of Redex into the tank when you next fill her up. Get the petrol type, the one that has Fuel Injector cleaning agents in it:

Welcome.

Does your accelerator cable have any slack at the part where it meets the throttle body? It is adjustable and held in the selected level with a clip. It should be in there tight. That was an issue on my coupe until recently. Its a common issue. If it is slack, then adjust it up more until tight enough but not so much so that it opens the butterfly valve to any extent.

When was the last time the car had a good service? If the air filter is clogged, this will severely affect acceleration. Its not a very powerful unit and its quite a big car so you need all the bhp it can give you

The 1.6 models must have been terrible if people feel the 1.8 is underpowered. Were they ever sold in the UK?
