I actually remember I coated the concrete with £33 thinking I' sure it only takes £30 to fill??!! The camber of the concrete ran away from the car so only when I saw the flood on the other side of the car flowing across the forecourt did I notice something was wrong, pulled out the nozzle and realised I could also see the floor through my filler cap! I paid and left discreetly

Ha! It was the kind of circumstances that does have a stupid edge to it I know, but it's one of the things that you would very least expect to happen! As far as I was aware that petrol nozzle was inserted into my fuel filler pipe filling petrol into my car! It could happen to any one...............who had a Montego
A self-lightening car! I had a few of those myself So, not alerted by a splashing noise? Was it raining??

"I'm sorry but my rust bucket has turned your forecourt into a potential inferno, I think you need to call someone" Ah well, I probably would have done the same when I was a lad.

I remember my mum driving our converted Hillman Imp van (LUF 702F) into Marshfields service station on the Sewardstone Road and asking the old boy who worked as the attendant there for "a pound's worth", which was enough to get her around for a week.

I guess I'm remembering from just after decimalization, so 35.25p per gallon would be 2.8 gallons. Not bad for the school run and shopping trips for a week.
Incidently, that's 7.76p per liter.

Hilarious. Not. Is the old witch dead yet? "This bag of shopping from Harrod's is smaller than this bag of shopping from Tesco's"
HI Saffy,Welton, You caught my attention when I saw the words "Throttle Potentiometer".I have owned a MK1 1996 2ltr petrol LX 406 from new and have covered 137,000 trouble free miles in her, until march this year that is.I will just give you a brief run through of what has happened.
My car would jerk/jolt when i lifted the throttle off to allow the engine to slow the car down and when i put the power back on .and it had a high tickover if i engagaed neutral while the car will still rolling, and would only resume the normal 950 rpm once the car had come to a complete halt..The car has had its stepper motor and map sensor replaced. But the faults still remained and the fault light then started coming on,so the oxygen sensor was replaced along with having the Adaptives reset properly this time!!!! .This seemed to make things a lot better and the fault light stayed off, until about a week later. The fault light came on again about once in every 3 trips and the jerk came back but on an intermittent basis and not as noticeable. The dealer had it back yesterday and ran every test he could think of,he even got a reading of lamda1 ,which he said was as good a reading as any car could get.The downloaded fault code suggested an "Intermittent fuel regulation fault",which he said could only be caused now by intermittently incorrect voltages being sent to the ECU from the throttle pot, caused by a worn track inside the pot.I suppose the TP could be worn as the car has covered 137,000 miles.Do you think the TP could be worn in various positions as he suspects.
