hello all. i have just been and bought myself a 1999 406.1.8 petrol
this car leapt off the web page as it only has 61k on the clock , i had to make sure it wasn't a mis-print
so just been looking at a few topics thought i would join so if mechanical advice is needed at any point in the future it can be easily obtained
hopefully won't need t to much tho . i have been told it will see me to retirement age ( i am 30)
if any 1 has info on little things ( or big) i need to keep an eye on would be much appreciated.
it has recently had new clutch and cam - belt

Welcome in Kev!
Sounds like you got a cracking car, especially if it's just had clutch & cam belt!
You haven't got too much to worry about with that mileage apart from worn engine mounts & the usual service parts!
You'll be wanting to check for play in the antirollbar drop links & rear top links, also check for perishing of the antirollbar bushes.

I've got the 1.8 petrol lump myself, in a 1999 LX-trim face-lifted (D9) saloon.
I bought mine with 27,500 on the clock back in November 2008. It was a fleet car for Britannia Insurance, and was based in Glasgow, only being used to run from the guy's house to the office and back. I have taken it up to 44,000 since then, and no problems at all, mechanically. The engine starts first time, every time, and runs sweet-as.
Considering it's the lowest-end engine fitted to UK-bound 406s, it's surprisingly sporty, and gives a decent amount of low-end torque. Struggles a bit to accelerate from 50 to 70, especially uphill, but I've got no complaints (have personally overtaken people driving higher-end BMWs, Audis, and Porsches on the dual carriageways)
Look forward to seeing photos of your car!
