Evening all!

Post by v6bigcat »

Hi, i've got a problem with my '97 coupe v6 that i just can't sort. I'm hoping one of you guys can help.
My alternator belt is making a right noise, i changed the belt and it was slightly better until it got warm. As time has gone by its noisy all the time. I put a new tensioner on and still no joy. I've had my stethoscope on all the pulleys and they seem ok. I put a slightly smaller belt on and it still slips. Does anyone have any ideas? Also, i lost all my instrument panel illumination. Fuses ok, any suggestions?

Hello mate, welcome on in!
Not sure about the belt, power steering pump, alternator bearings?
Check the brightness setting for the instrument lights, should be a dial by your right knee that controls it.

Get some paint or tippex, and draw a line across the bottom (crankshaft) pulley. This will let you see if it's slipping due to a perished rubber 'bit' and needs replacing
