406 1.9TD LX newbie

Post by NollingtonHards »

I recently upgraded me 106 (which treated me well as a first car for a year and a half), to a 1.9TD LX 406. Purchased it yesterday from a very nice guy in slough for £800. 1 owner from new only and currently on 122,000. I aim to tidy it up, there's a little rust in the arches, give a thorough clean (although very clean already), maybe a 406/5 spoiler but generally just tidy it up. These are the pictures from the dealer but i aim to get some new photos up tommorow

Nice low miler for the money, although 406s really aren't known to be too susceptible to tinworm, so I'd check out those wheel arches and front end in general to see if the car's had a front-end collision in the past

Slight rust on the wheel arches but nothing i cant handle. Anyone else have trouble reverse parking it? i drove round a busy car park looking for a space i could get the swing on an then eventually gave up ha.
As promised some of me own photos;

A pretty much immaculate interior for how old the car is still needs a proper clean

After two weeks of using a tape player which i don't mind that much, but after a while it gets annoying not being able to listen to my CD collection.
After a bit of looking on the forum i found a link to autoleads and then found a link to halfords. Im wondering though if this is the right fascia plate for my 406;

I wasn't sure, it looks too short in the pics but it's the only one everyone seems to be selling :?

handily it just looks like the back box that's rusted so you should be able to get sorted for £50 or so on ebay

A quick trip to Kwik Fit and a new exhaust system later and its been fixed. I drove out off there and it felt much better to drive i.e. you can really feel the turbo kick in
Image
and my stereo fascia arrived and 10 minutes of muddling about with kitchen knifes (to get the head unit out, i'm not some sort of maniac) its in and working no problem :cheesy:

Kwik-Fit? :shock:

You can get better exhausts cheaper elsewhere.

I bought a stainless steel Powerflow cat-back exhaust system for at least £100 less than Kwik-Fit were going to charge me for a standard 406 exhaust.

You went to those muppets? I'm surprised you haven't had a new hole burnt out of the bumper by a badly fitted pipe...

Why did you get a new middle section? The old one looked perfectly serviceable!
