Newbie from MK

Post by Mastiff »

Hi all :)

Bit about myself and my new car.

I'm 35, engaged, 2 daughters and 2 dogs. I'm from Milton Keynes. Into bodybuilding and work as a builder.

I have owned loads of Pugs..... 306 GTI-6, loads of 205 GTI's, 1.6's and 1.9's, few 309 GTI's so really love my Pugs!

As time has got on I have decided to be a bit more sensible as my daughters are almost teen's and my dogs being a Bullmastiff and German Shepherd, so I bought a 2 owner'd 406 HDI 110 Estate 2001 with full Peugeot stamped history and 109,000 on the clock. I'm so impressed with this car, it's so comfy, huge boot for the dogs and economy is fantastic.....performance is a lot better than I thought :)

Paul.

Sounds like a solid motor mate. And for the age thats pretty low mileage too. Barely broken in that engine!!

Thanks for the welcome guys :D

The previous owner was a Traffic Cop and it really shows! He would not sell it to me to begin with as he found out the front left tyre had lost 2psi in 2 weeks so the wheel was taken in and a new tyre and valve fitted! He took me round the car and showed me everything, I was almost falling asleep......all I wanted to do was get in and drive off! He was telling me what bulbs he had used etc.....silly little things like that. The service history is unreal.....every stamp is in there!

It pulls very well from about 2,800rpm, I always thought Turbo Diesels spooled up about 1,500-1,800rpm? This is more like my old Cossie.....not much grunt then all go past 3,000rpm. I am going to get her re-mapped as reading on the net the BHP goes from 110 to 137BHP and torque from 250 to 300 so I reckon a nice differance.

Will get some pics up when weather cheers up as it's non stop raining here :(

The 110's max power is betweem 1800 and 2800 rpm and then it all goes a bit dead, almost sounds as though it's already been remapped as one of the characteristics of a remap is greater power at the top end.

In second gear it should pull really strongly through 2000-2500 and trying to spin the wheels in the wet.

Welcome by the way :cheesy:

Hmmmm...... I'm going to collect my daughter soon so will try her out in second and see what happens between 2-2,800rpm. It's a 9 mile country lane run to her school so will give her a good run in all gears.

I have read many things about disconecting the EGR valve or something.....meant to help performance?

It's not really a modification popular on here and the only recorded difference between blanking, leaking or replacement EGR's is a bit more (or less) smoke from the exhaust :|

As far as I know it's a popular mod on Rovers? I think ebay is littered with blanking plates for Rover Diesels so must be popular for them.

My mate did it to our work's transit, and to his own, and made an improvement.

He's trying to get me to do it, and mine seems to be leaking as plenty of soot deposits around there, but a little dubious, as with the new exhaust and decat, mine feels good as it is, plus if I do remove the egr, I might be pushing my luck as with the cat already removed, the black smoke has increased already, and might be too much
