Hello! New member with ageing estate!

Post by Bluesman »

Hello Everybody, I stumbled across this site while trying to find an answer to my various problems! I have to say it is one of the best resources on the net. I have already solved two minor faults just by reading through some of the posts and saved myself a small fortune! thank you to those previous posters. I decided it was time to actually register and join this great community. I am on my second 406. My first, a Rapier Saloon HDi, completed 216,000 miles before my need for an estate car signalled its demise. I now have a 2.1 TD estate which while being older, has only done 171,000 miles! A mere youngster! It does have a few "issues" however and I hope to share these with you! Anyway I have waffled enough! Where did I put that screwdriver????

Hello, and a nice little intro there.

You may have discovered on your travels through here that your 2.1 is a solid reliable thing with very little in the way of troubles.

Hope you continue to find the site usefull.

Hi there, welcome :cheesy:

As Welly says, the 2.1 is a solid old lump, it's old school which means in a trade off for slightly higher emissions and consumption you get an engine that isn't covered in delicate & expensive electronics and a much nicer torque curve.

I still have fond memories of the 12 valve 2.1td fitted in my 605 STDT - that was a great car really, horribly abused but ran to 260,000 + miles before the fuel pump spewed it and it started blowing loads of blue smoke too. Weird thing was it was still pulling like a train :?

Thank you for the welcome guys! I am already hooked on my 2.1TD. Its not as refined in many ways as the HDi but what it lacks in finesse it definitely makes up for in grunt! And the boot is so big it swallows up my bands gear with room to spare! And all for just 400 quid on e bay! (and that included a full tank of diesel :cheesy: ) I just keep smiling to myself!
