Hi there I'm new and struggling with the old girl

Post by Steve9283 »

Hi everyone I'm steve!
I have a 2000 HDi 90 that's done about 120k and going strong.... Until recently

I've got a water leak coming from a metal hose behind the engine, the Engine management light just came on but still runs ok, and like the general arse I am I run out of diesel the otherday and now everytime I open the fuel cap she won't start for about 10/15 minutes :( which is a pain.

There's alot more but I won't bog u all down with it all now lol :)
I've grown attached to this car as it's my work horse easily taking me over 1800 miles a month so I don't really want to part with her.

Anyways thanks for reading and hope to speak to you all soon!

Steve :)

The EML lamp is probably on because you ran out of fuel.

Being a '90' I think you need to 'prime' the system, it might be a Siemens injection system which I don't think self-primes instead there is a black Priming Bulb in the engine bay (like a squishy ball) to be honest I've never seen it done but I'm guessing you keep squeezing the thing until it goes solid?

Anyone else offer any advice?

I'm not sure what your water leak would be, you'd need a better description of a picture of what's leaking.

I'm pretty sure the 2000 hdi90 I've got at home hasn't got a priming bulb. After changing the fuel filter I just turned the ignition on a couple of times to rev up the fuel tank pump (is that the 'lift pump' in hdi terminology?) to push fuel forwards and it fired no problem. Can't remember what the ECU is, but it's a single-plug so possibly a bosch?

Sorry, I know the above is zero help to the OP :(
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

The Siemen's 90 doesn't have a lift pump so it has a priming bulb, yours must be Bosch.

My Bosch ecu has 3 plugs :?

The 90 eec 2000 depoll also has the water jacket around the egr tube, I wonder if that's what's leaking, Might also give some odd effects if it's leaking inside...

That's just weird

Might be co-incidental and spinning with no fuel has damaged the lift pump (if it has one...)
