Just a courteous hello to all. Both my wife and I have been huge fans of the 405/406 and have owned our knacked old 1998 V6 estate for the last 6 years (well the bloody thing keeps on passing the MOT!!)
I have always maintained my own cars and have been able to tackle most jobs without pestering for assistance. But I'm stuck......no with the job but with parts identification/knowledge.
Essesntially my steering rack is leaking oil. I have identified the leak as coming out of the seal at the top of the pinion hydraulic motor where the steering linkage attaches. Now, I've had a scout round fleabay and on this site but everything comes as a complete unit (i.e. with the rack as well), but I don't know which type of rack I have fitted.
So, is there any difference in the pinion hydraulic motor across the range? If not, then I could buy any rack and just change the motor and throw the rest of the rack in a skip.
Any info hugely appreciated as my drive is getting pretty sh*tty and I need to stop this leak!!
