Another new guy
Hello all names Damon im 19 and im from shrewsbury just bought myself a '96 406 D Turbo in china blue for £400 with 12 months MOT 2 months tax and only 155k on the clock, pretty damn chuffed with it if you ask me its the GLX model with all the fancy stuff in it with loads of buttons which i have no idea what most of them do got some plans for it: want to get it lowered a bit, put some 306 cyclones on it in either dark grey or gold, colour code bumpers, swap the electric bosch fuel pump over to a mechanical one for some smoke and then of course give it some more booooooost will get some pictures up of it tomorrow hopefully

Considering those Eibach springs,im not so good about mechanic, but let me check with some folks if they know the answer.

Re: Another new guy
Hi & welcome.
That's definitely a lot of car for £400.
I believe that is a mechanical fuel pump you have there.
Will you be running it on veg oil?
A strut brace makes a massive difference to handling in corners. However, they need persuading in order to fit under the D8 bonnet, and I notice that the post that holds the bonnet open may get in the way.
Will you be coming to Pugfest?

Thanks mate, the pump can run on veg oil yes but its the ecu Bosch pump not mechanical so I can't do anything with the max fuel and compensator until I get a mechanical one on it but yes I probably will put some veg in it from time to timerwb wrote:Hi & welcome.

I got my strut brace from Ade the coupe breaker, I think it was £10. He'll probably be at Pugfest with a boot full of bits; he sold all the strut braces he'd brought last year
Cool. It's always good to meet members.damon796 wrote:Yes will be at pugfest and FCS

Re: Another new guy
Looks tidy enough for the money. Bet your insurance isn't pretty though - for some reason the 406 is ridiculously high to insure compared to similar vehicles. One bit of helpful advice though; I'd advise against the 306 Cyclones (unless it's because you already have them). They have centre-less hub mountings which most numpty tyre fitters struggle to balance properly & if you're only looking to get 15ins alloys, the standard 406 alloys (Corail or Opale) look smart enough without having being a pain to balance. If it's 5 spokes you're specifically looking for, 306 Lasers have normal mountings.damon796 wrote:Hello all names Damon im 19 and im from shrewsbury just bought myself a '96 406 D Turbo in china blue for £400 with 12 months MOT 2 months tax and only 155k on the clock, pretty damn chuffed with it if you ask me its the GLX model with all the fancy stuff in it with loads of buttons which i have no idea what most of them do got some plans for it: want to get it lowered a bit, put some 306 cyclones on it in either dark grey or gold, colour code bumpers, swap the electric bosch fuel pump over to a mechanical one for some smoke and then of course give it some more booooooost will get some pictures up of it tomorrow hopefully

Re: Another new guy
My insurance isn't actually that bad, 800 quid for a year with 1 years NCB with aviva, and a 306 would have been a tad less at 700 so pretty good tbh yeah well I used to have a 306 with cyclones so I know all about this haha but I know a place to get them done and I've done a Photoshop with them on so my mind is set on having them on it haha thanks for the input tho!waue1978 wrote:Looks tidy enough for the money. Hi & welcome to the forum
Car looks very tidy.
Never tried it myself, but I believe you can adjust the fuelling and boost just as much with the ecu controlled pump, (I suspect the electronics just control the timing). Bailles is your man.....

2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Yeah, i thought that you would surely be able to somehow but my mate who's a mechanic reckons you can't do anything with them?Doggy wrote:Hi & welcome to the forum

He's probably talking more about the good ole' days when you could turn a screw to get a few horses. Think those days are pretty much numbered now, but if you're handy with a laptop you can probably get more horses than you would have got with the flat-head screwdriver.damon796 wrote:Yeah, i thought that you would surely be able to somehow but my mate who's a mechanic reckons you can't do anything with them?Doggy wrote:Hi & welcome to the forum
