Hello, newbie saying help

Post by Duncancallum »

Hi, I've bought a bargin hdi resplendent in bronze and beige. And it needs a clutch, so I'm here looking at guides and shortcuts to do the job. I'm a fairly experienced in doing crap like this.

So hello and help!

Cheers

Hello. Umm, any advance on "HDi"? 'cos we got 3 - 2.0 90bhp, 2.0 110 & 2.2 136. Without looking it up I don't think there's much difference between the 110 & 136 but the 90 lacks a dual mass flywheel and I think there's some other stuff to know about too. Best to be specific

Its a 2.0 hdi 90 as there is no intercooler, Im quite happy to do the job but was enquiring over any shortcuts which people find with experiance. although I have a mate who runs his own garage and said he would do it for £100 which may be favorite as im getting fet up rolling under cars and getting covered in crap

the only other issue is a slight boost leak which is coming from the steel concertina pipe on the inlet manifold.

its replacing my old 2.0 dtl vectra B which was an amazing bargin work horse, so far the pug is nicer to drive but we shall see if its going to be as much of a bargin.

Hi Duncan and welcome aboard. 8)

As steve says the 90 has no DMF which simplifies things a bit. It also has the smaller BE series gearbox.

Conventional wisdom says the clutch is something like a 9-hour job, requiring removal of the subframe. In reality, it's possible to undo the gearbox side, loosen t'other side & wiggle the 'box out.

IIRC, a year or so back, someone with a 1.9TD, (which has the same 'box), managed to wriggle it out upwards after removing the battery, battery tray and so on. So it's not impossible as a DIY job, but getting it done for £100 labour is pretty good, too.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Jasper5's mate did my clutch in 4 hours, but he's an expert and worked like a fiend. The gearbox will wiggle out with the two subframe bolts only loosened. He did the whole thing for an amazing price too.

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.
