hi all.

Post by Bobble »

Hello all

Just saved a 406 glx estate from being scrapped

As I was currently car less, and fancy abit of a project

Not normally the kind if project I'd of gone for but it will make a nice enough car once done
Got to say it drives incredibly nice. First pug I've owned although I've liked them for ages

So whats up with it,

Failed mot on stuff it failed on the year before arb's etc.
Although I know the place it went to an I'd never take a car there
But it does definetly need the ball joints doing got those ready

Various bits of trim need sorting, and a sill needs welding

So nouthing major at all

Got a massive puddle behind drivers seat, though this may be because previous owner took the aerial and base off???
Collects them apparently

So orderd a new one

Heater motor not working, not sure if this is due to above

And rear drivers side door won't lock

3 owner car and it's not to shabby if I'm fair for 182k

It's a 2.1td so thinking of getting a Bosch pump from a 1.9 for it at some point

I'll post a pic later :)

Hi, welcome.

The 2.1 is a good car, and most of the faults you mention have happened to one of us at some point of 406 ownership...

Estate or Saloon?
2003 2.2hdi estate - mine
1998 Volvo 940 auto estate - also mine
2019 Citroen C3 something - the wife's

+1 on the 2.1 engine. Not the most refined in the world but powerful (especially remapped!) and boringly reliable.

+ another 1. All the power of an HDi but none of the expensive "issues". The Lucas EPIC is reliable enough, unless you want to run it on anything made out of modern vegetables...

Welcome btw :cheesy:

Welcome, if you post your location I have a few spares which I kept from my old 1.9 you may be interested in including a blower motor.

They are relatively bulky so may not be worth posting but if you're localish to Telford give me a shout.

thanks all for the welcomes, its a estate and a pic will be up in pug pics once its approved :)

cheers for offer of parts, im in notts, but dont think ill be spending anything on it for a little while yet, picked worst time to buy it, missis booked in for a c-section in a week and moving in a few weeks

But dident want to see it go to scrap, its rough round the edges yes, but drives bang on apart from the ball joints,

few year back i nearly bought a 406 saloon rapier 2.0 hdi 90, but it had been driven into the ground and clutch only bit at the very top of the travel so put me off, for the price it was anyway.

ahh there it is
