Hi, new person here

Post by Ady1985 »

Hi everyone, names Adrian, 28, and I'm a postman living in the peterlee area.
Currently driving a j reg clio 1.8 16v but looking to store that away and grab a 406 hdi diesel estate in the next few days :-)

Just out of daftness I have been looking at the SE models with ac + sn but i've found a rapier model with just ac, tempted on buying it too, is it easy to fit the sat nav units into them?

Thanks for any info and another hi from me :-)

Hello and welcome :)

Retrofitting sat nav is a bit of a faff, and in most people's opinion it's not a good enough system to be worth the bother. But to answer your question, yes, it is technically possible.

Good luck with the search!

Avoid satnav. The maps are out of date, they put a reliance on having the remote control in order to do simple stuff like change the clock, and the screens are notoriously flakey.

Get a proper modern satnav unit - tomtom, etc or buy the tomtom app if you've got an iphone :)

Hi Adrian and welcome aboard. 8)

As the others have said, the satnav's no great prize, but you might want to think about some of the other differences between models?
Is cruise control, (or the possibility of retro-fitting), important? If so avoid 90 bhp models.
There are three diesel engindes - 2.0 90 bhp, 2.0 110 bhp, 2.2 136 bhp, with corresponding differences in perfomance, ecomomy and road tax costs.
Lots of people buy a 406 without any research and are still happy with their purchase, but I recommend working out exactly what you want, then finding a good example.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Well I want the 2.0 hdi, but wanting all the fancy stuff that an executive provides so was looking at a se model, prefer something with digital a/c climate control, half leather or full leather seats, not fussed on electric and heated, full elec windows and mirrors and arm rests in front lol, them little things make a difference hahaha. Such a fussy bloke but hey, I just want big comfortable car, I have had modified mk 1 clios for past 10 year's and all been fuel gussling lower than ya nans nipples rattle boxes as an everyday car and time to go up and keep the clio as a restoration project

Don't overlook the Estate, it might not be a priority but there is more to the Estate than you think and it is the way it looks mostly; quite purposeful and business-like. The Estate is Classless, suits anyone and fits in anywhere.

A late model SE is a nice spec and more modern inside, some would look at the Exec's Leather/Wood and find it not to there liking (although I had Heated Leather and it was super comfy).

Deffo after an estate, a saloon would be great, but the estate is perfect, I have 2 dogs and haul alot of football gear around for the sunday league team I play for and my little clio valver can't cope with it all. And I want comfort now rather than speed, sorta grown up lol I know my dad is over the moon im looking at younger nicer more upclass cars hahaha

Any reason you want the 2.0/110 over the 2.2? A remapped 2.2 is quite an enjoyable drive :cheesy:

Don't really want to go any bigger than the 2.0 tbh, its suppose to be a run around so I can restore tye clio but I'll still be modding the 406 lol, and taking it to french car show lol
