My lock-down lovely.

This is the latest addition to my car 'fleet' (more a small flotilla really)

She's a beautiful top of the range 'V6' saloon dating from 1998 with a mere 56,000m on the clock and the most comprehensive history file I've ever seen in nearly forty years of car buying. Before me she belonged of a elderly gentleman from Derby who got her from dealer demonstrater stock and he looked after the car meticulously - this 406 passed every MOT test first time during her entire 22 year life until some clown failed her on deteriorated number plates! The old chap only sold his Peugeot because, at the age of 90, he thought it was about time to give up his driving licence. I believe this colour is called 'Wicked Red' is it not? I also understand there are less than fifty of these left on UK roads.

Before the current Covid 19 lock down situation brought my fun to a sudden halt I was much enjoying getting to know the old girl. I suppose 200 bhp is nothing to write home about by modern standards, but the 3.0 V6 engine is as smooth as a smooth thing and I find this car a pleasingly spirited vehicle to drive - this helped no doubt by her being being fitted with a manuel gearbox. Nevertheless, I would describe the V6 as more a refined cruiser rather than a true 'Ronin' style BMW rival. The ride and handling seem to me perfectly acceptable (once got used to the somewhat light power steering) and I have no complaints about Peugeot build quality either. I love her old school key pad immobiliser system - it reminds me of the Citreon ZX I once had many moons ago.

As for negatives the car was looked after so well there is not very much that I need to sort out. There is a little (easily sorted) lacquer peel on the front bumper and the cream leather seats are showing distinct signs of age related 'patina' - to the extent that I think they will soon require some attention. The A/C system also needs work - much experience with cars tells me that is seldom a simple re gassing job. But that is about it.

So - hopefully - I'm looking forward to a long a rewarding relationship with my rare and lovely old V6.
