Introducing myself and my '6

Post by av8tor »

Hello all, I just wanted to start by saying I really do admire everyone's dedication to their vehicle, it shows true pride. I just put a down payment on a 96 1.9 TD LX 406 today, and I'm going to pick her up tomorrow. The car itself is in great shape, 110K on the clock, and some of the most extensive service history I've seen in a pre-owned car. It came fitted with a towbar, which at first had me worried, but it was apparently used lightly, as the clutch is in very good condition, with no slipping. Its dark green, and interior is very well kept. Can't wait to pick it up tomorrow!

I'm from the US, so naturally I'm discovering these vehicles on my own over here, but I'm very impressed to say the least. I'm glad to have fallen into a great car and supportive followers! BTW, its my first diesel, are there any suggestions you all have to driving it compared to a petrol? Us Americans don't know what a real diesel is

Thanks, gents!

dont accelerate
seriously, the turbo doesnt start to kick till 2500rpm, so accelerate gently till then, then give it some welly, and dont rev past 4000rpm, theres nothing after it, for maximum fuel economy, accelerate with minimum throttle and dont take then engine past 2300rpm
do you know about the glow plug light, its a orange squigly line light, wait till it goes out once the ignition is switched on and then start

oh welcome by the way :P

I haven't seen the light yet, but I will check it out tomorrow when I pick it up. I understand how diesels work, but approx. how long until the light goes out before I turn the key? Appreciate it!

Should only be a few seconds for the plug light to go out

Actually, nothing too exciting, a pick up truck, Red 2002 Ford Ranger. Great truck, and the girlies loved it. :cheesy:

on the old 1.9 the light can take up to 12 seconds when its really cold
but average time is about 7 to 8 seconds, but it will seem like forever

Not suitable for bank robberies than? ;)
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Should be a new experience for you then, driving a car that actualy goes round a corner with suspension that doesn't make it wobble for up to 10 minutes even when parked. 8)
