North East Newbie

Post by DurhamRed »

Evening all,
just joined this evening. Bought myself a 2001 2.2Sri which is in excellent order with FSH, 60K on the clock and sat nav built in. Pick it up on Monday 30th and looking forward to having a good blast up the A68 in it.
Trading my X reg S40 in, good car but its cracked a piston ring, so onwards and upwards. I have a question or 2 about the sat nav - so her goes.

A) Do you have to subscribe to enable the system?
B) I have the remote for it but no disc. Will it matter?

If I need to post these questions in another section then please accept my apologies.

Cheers :D

Hiya mate and Welcome 8)

No subscription needed for the sat nav
You will need a disc, you can buy them from Navteq here, for waaaaay too much money, and they sometimes come up on ebay. Or if you know someone who has a 406 with sat nav, the system will run "backups" fine. :P

Cheers mate, I've read the sat nav posts on the electrical forum so I'll see if mine works okay when I get hold of a disc.

Does it have the same dog ugly (grey with red bits iirc) upholstery as the 2.0 turbo SRi?
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Apparently the 2.2 only came in Silver and Blue and has a half leather sports interior. It was available from 2000 for about 2 years only.

The engine is a 16 valve with 160BHP/160lbft torque (with most of the torque being available from 1900 RPM).

I too would like to see this car 8)

Thanks for the replies folks;
Yes it is the 2.2SRi, its in Monaco Blue, it has the half leather interior, I'm only 6 miles from Stanhope and I have absolutely no intention of going through the FORD!

Will post up a pic or two next week when I've picked the car up from the dealers.
Cheers all.

thats so unlucky, not many S40/V40's had that dodgy engine with poor piston ring sealing, apparently it was during a shift change at the factory and they werent fully built or assembled properly, though volvo will never admit the truth, i take it that it was the 2.0 16v B4204s engine?

Yes you are correct mate. Its using nearly 1 litre of oil every 500 mile! So its going and Monday can't come quick enough - i really am looking forward to getting my 406.
