I'm new, got a Nov 2000 (X) D9 406 HDi Rapier Estate (that means a 90) currently at 94k in stunning platinum silver, with Starsky and Hutch style graphics. Fitted a tuning box within weeks of having it, and much improvement on mpg and torque. Want to leave it as standard.
Never thought I'd ever own a diesel car, but being an ex-multi-drop delivery driver (not a white van man (ok was for a bit) I thought 'he by eck, these diesel thingy ma jigs can't half go when they want to'.
PS. A few tongue in cheeks above.... but joking about the S+H graphics.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I should have pointed out I bought my 406 just over a year ago after a lot of research including asking my brother (he's a quality self-employed mechanic) and only found this forum a few days ago. The 406 has been excellent. Apart from servicing I've only had to buy a new back box, a OS rear track arm, and some new 'rubber' bolts and caps for the engine cover.
largeuk, the best 406 is something we agree on. I bought it for £2.5k and after looking at some of the prices around it would give me the same back. Lots of flexibility for shed loads of stuff and not much down on the saloon in terms of mpg. Not to mention how well the 405 estate held it's value for so long and the demand for 4 series estates, and the way the D9 looks is still very nice. Even my daughters mother wants it which says something about the way it looks.
