Post by daddycool73 »

Hi everyone, i have a 2000 406 saloon 3.0v6, it has suddenly developed a misfire on 3 cylinders.
I am getting fuel through injectors, spark from coils, new plugs and the valve timing has been checked.
does this model have issues with ECU ignition/injector timing or is there any other known faults.
i have checked earths, seem ok, getting stuck now, help please someone!! desperate :?:

Hi there. Is this any use to you? viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3489#p40250

You don't say if this is just on idle or throughout the rev range. How bad is it (1500 cc triple??) How did you track it down to cylinders 1, 2 and 3? (Spark plugs?) Where are cylinders 1, 2 and 3 anyway? Is that one bank or are they everywhere? How are the coils arranged? I suppose I'd better ask if it's got that funky variable valve timing thing too...

thanks for replying, it is the whole bank gone down, at front of vehicle, i understand these are 1,2,3 cylinders, when i pull out coils carefully as engine is idling, they are sparking across to nearest earth, i can pull all coils off and the engine runs the same, running only on the back three cylinders, it misfires at idle or fast idle doesnt matter.
there is one thing i noticed the car starts up quite easy, sounds ok for about 5 seconds then starts misfiring again, this might just be my imagination mind.
It has cam sensors on both banks and cam actuators, so it looks like it has variable valve timing.
Have done compression test OK,
Spark plugs are always wet when i remove them, so i feel this is pointing to timing issue??

It'll be the 210bhp ES9J4S. What are the plugs wet with when you remove them - water, coolant, oil or petrol?
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Hi there everyone i have found the fault, the catalyst on the front bank had broken up internally, its contents had blown back to second cat and blocked it up.
This would possibly explain the engine running smooth for first five seconds or so of start up.
I realised what it probably was as i was writing the last post on the forum, surpisingly, there was no other explanation apart from maybe a timing issue.
Thanks to everyone for viewing my post.
May i also thank and recommend john for his help at ALL CAR ELECTRONICS who are able to supply recon ecu's, as plug n play items
