10mpg 120+ mph
15mpg Cained in the countryside
22mpg Short urban trips
28mpg typical lane 3 motorway driving
45mpg 60mph motorway driving
how quick are they 0-60
about 7.5s iirc. Feels a lot slower than it is due to the soft suspension and seats
how reliable are they
IMMENSELY if not modified. They really didn't make that many with the XU10J2TE engine, but they probably come close to outnumbering the other petrol engines now  The 406 was built to last!
good points
Exec trim is luxurious
Low maint
Galvanised body, so won't rust
Cheap parts - VAG prices are horrific in comparison (I've just got myself a Mk4 golf, so I know!)
Easy maintenance and repair in most cases - it's a surprisingly simple car
The estate is a lovely car
This forum! :cheesy:
badpoints
Economy can be an issue if driven hard
SRI trim is godawful
Feels slow due to the comfort level
The saloon is pretty average
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

The saloon rocks - maybe not as much as the coupe, but it's a stylish motor when unmodified.

Add the boot lid spoiler and a set of shiny alloys, and ensure your paint work is clean and there's no trim missing, and the saloon is a really attractive sporty-looking car (especially the D9, in my opinion)

I am still waiting for a nice day so I can A) clean my 406 and B) take some photos of it now that I've fitted the spoiler and the door sill guards
2002 (D9) Peugeot 406 Coupe SE, 2.2 litre Petrol. Scarlet Red/Rouge Ecarlate/Rosso Scarlatto. Black Leather interior. SOLD :(
2008 (E60 LCI) BMW 525i M-Sport, 3.0 litre Petrol. Carbonschwarz Metallic. Black Dakota Leather and Myrtlewood interior.
