Right, you know when you wash your 406 and water drips from the sills for what seems like days afterwards???????

Well, I thought I would investigate and share with you all my findings:

Firstly, I wanted to check this area for signs of blockages thinking that water must get trapped here....

So I took out the 3 lowest screws and had a pokey pokey....

And the other side, the same, full of leaves and bits Ewwww.....

I cleaned it all out good and proper and put it all back together. Eager with anticipation of my success I began washing the car as usual, leathered off, the full monty.

I moved the car to a dry bit and awaited the results....................

So now I hear you ask........... Did it work Welly?

It appears the water just gets stuck in there anyway, it's the bit of arch liner that returns under the body at the bottom, it's just a water trap and that's that!

At least I cleared the leaves out though :|

water in sills

Hi - just read your post - had to add a comment from experience. For ages after heavy rain I used to get a "rushing water" sound inside the car everytime I braked or pulled away. It sounded like it was coming from the sunroof or roof/upper door area. It drove me nuts - going away in the dry weather and reappearing after heavy rain. I cleared the sunroof drains but no improvement. Thought the window seal was leaking so checked that also - still no good. One day I reversed out the drive, at the same time heard the water running forward and I noticed a line of water on the road. Jumped out and seen water was coming from nearside sill. I parked the car on a hill - nose up and popped out the gommet at the back of the sill - just ahead of the rear wheel. With a hose I siphoned about 2 litres of water out. Anyway, after a lot of fault finding with a hose I found that the spot welded together panels behind the front wheelarch trims - as in the above photos - were not water tight and a small gap was there between the steel panels. When I went through puddles in bad weather the rain fired off the wheel straight into the space behind these trims flooding the sill.
Maybe this will help someone out there with a similar problem. I lived with this one for ages.

Thanks for your comments, I'm glad you found the problem.

Actually, fingers crossed, I haven't had the sloshing water yet but I know others on here have.

Bit of a bad design then really :|

water eslewhere

a little while ago I posted re a problem I was having with water getting into rear passanger foot area. I had a couple of responses but never figured it out. Currently the passenger side rear carpet is a swamp. I guess I'll have to change the seals, although they look fine and the Pug plastic strip is also fine. However, just thought I'd seek some opinions again...particularly as to the ease or not of changing the door seals.....cheers.

Hi Marcus,

I used to have water getting into my d8. Turns out someone had butchered the polythene water shedder inside the door. Pugs have a tendancy to have dodgy locks, so the doors are often "opened up" to fiddle with the locks.

My advice would be to take the door card off and check that the polyethene sheet hasn't been ripped / cut before you go spending money on new seals. :?

Hope you sort it, nothing worse than a damp smelling car! :frown:

I had wet footwell, the plastic sheet had been ripped, replaced it and problem fixed. I wish all problems were that easy to fix. Maybe someone will come up with an answer to my auto dip mirror question on the electrics section of the forum - I can only hope :o(
