Convert a l to an lx

Discuss the 406's Bodywork stuff in here (what parts fit what, what can be interchanged with what etc etc).

Convert a l to an lx

Post by eoin27 »

I'm going to challenge the laws of physics, imbalance everything that was balanced and say yay to those who say nay.......

My Dad is trading up ( a 607 2.2 HDi SE) and he is giving me his D9 base model (I think its called 'L' in England) to use as my own. Now, I have a D9 406 lx which is fine apart from the poor bodywork, engine, gearbox, bodywork, clutch, and did I say bodywork? His 406 is mint with an excellent engine, bodywork etc etc but the thing is so basic.

I want to basically take as much equipment from my lx and shove it into his one to make a 'super' 406 and then flog the other one for a song.

I am hoping some of the experienced members of the board can help me here and give me some pointers on each of the issues and things that I want to do. What I am proposing to do is as follows:

1) Seats swap

2) Display and CD player swap

3) Electric wing mirror to manual swap

4)Temperature gauge - Big Issue as i really want this to work in my new d9, I dont have a clue of how i will transfer it over as the wing mirror connections arent present where there is manual mirrors in his car

5) Climate Control - I know I wont be able to switch these around so I wont bother trying.

6) Chrome moulding removal - How the hell do I get this off without ruining the moulding or the bodywork?

Thats it really, not as daunting when its on paper

Any help would be greatly appreciated :cheesy:

My God, has your Dad's one got anything?

Seats = Easy

CD Player (is it the standard one?) - in the D9 the CD player is coded to that particular car, so'd you have to get it reprogrammed.... Display - Hope the wiring is already there? What's in your dad's at the moment then?

Mirrors - Errrm, anything's possible

Temp Gauge - shouldn't be too difficult, but I wouldn't have a clue where to start either.

Climate - 'nuff said!

Chrome mouldings - the ones in the rub strips? Don't try to remove the chrome from the rub strip, remove the rub strip from the car. I think they're just press fitted (but accept no responsibility for any damaged caused trying to pull them off).

Seems like a hell of a job to me mate.

Wouldn't it be easier to flog both and buy one with more toys?

Ya it seems like a pain alright. The display in my dads car is more basic than the one in my car or most 406's, only the early basic d9's had em.

I meant to put this topic in the engine and mechanical forum, way more hits there

I think most of us are using "View new posts" so it won't make that much difference.
