That looks VERY smart! Bluey Bling on a silver car really does make a massive difference.

Not too keen on the exhaust and boot lip though
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Its like most things some people like some people dont. Not a fan of big spoilers in any shape or form on a 406. Have always liked the lip type you find on a bmw so now it has one :D With ref to the exhaust its only a trim. Its a standard sytem with an oval trim fixed over the end. Like most things look better in the flesh than on a pic. Thanks for your comments mjb

Thanks for all the positive feedback i like and thats the main thing :cheesy: :cheesy: :cheesy:

As my mate puts in brings the 406 bang upto date 8) 8)

With ref to painting. The only advise i can give is spend as much time as possible on the preperation. I used plenty of acetone at first to strip the black plastic inserts of oil gel or what ever was used to make them shinny black. Decided not to remove the chrome inserts as its a bastard to do apparently.

I gave them a good rub over with some 180 grit paper paying attention to covering all of the black trim and chrome insert. Very time consuming :| :|

Then i masked off around the inserts with newspaper to avoid overspray. Applied a very thin layer of plastic primer let dry for a good 15 mins between 3 thin layers of paint.

Used some fine paper wet and dry 400 then 800 paper to smooth the surface.
Wiped dry and clean from water and dust.
Applied a very thin coat of paint let dry for a good 15 mins between 3 thin layers of paint.
Left car for 24 hours.
Repeated process above. Left for around 3 to 4 hrs. Then started using some very fine wet and dry started with 800 to 1200 and finished with 1500. So surface was nice and smooth ready for top coat of laquer.
Left paint for a good two weeks to harden. Then applied some cutting paste to finish off etc... It has lasted nearly a year the only problem is the front is chipping a little But hey lets face it it looks pretty good i.m.o.a.

That's because the clipped pictures are thumbnails ( ), if I click them I get to see the whole thing. You really need to resize them to 640x480, either use Micro$oft's photo editor or if you enlist on Photobucket they give you an option to resize them.

Ah, I was trying not to say anything, it's a nice, straight car, I like the Bluey BlingTM and the modest boot spoiler but, how can I put this without causing offence? What stopped you painting the tyres silver too?

     They only do black tyre paint or it would be done  . The thing that got me was my mates kept saying have you still got that taxi   and people jumping out in the road after a lift "LOOKS LIKE A TAXI"  Taste is a personal thing. I feel that is just enough as it is.

The chrome inserts, I didn't see the ksenon bulbs 'til you pointed them out. Yep, 406s make great cabs 'cos they're good reliable motors (try telling the bloke in the pub that though  ) so take it as a compliment. I think you'd still get that whatever car you had though, I've been in all shapes and sizes.

You could start charging people for lifts :cheesy:

Or buy something that can't be mistaken for a cab, like a fait panda...

That sounds like a crazy amount of work just for a little plastic strip - I'd never get off my arse to do it! Glad you did though because the result's stunning...

I did not want to keep messing around with it. I decided to spend the time on it and be done with. Otherwise i would be going over it as the paint would of come off. The front is a little chipped now so it blends it with the bonnet and the bumper   . I guess mjb you would of prefered it just colour coded then instead of the exhaust trim and lip spoiler?
