Passenger airbag cover

Post by aa410c »

The passenger airbag cover on my 96 1.9 td has started to lift at the one corner. The car interior is very tidy for its age and whilst i could have a go at sticking it back with glue i wondered if this cover is replacable and if it is safe to do it.

I think all our 406's have suffered from this; I used contact adhesive on mine, there was a thread a few months back on this.

Nope, and the sun's much stronger here too. Only thing wrong with the D8's dash is the mobile phone platform screw holes (which I filled with black boot polish :supafrisk: ) Maybe it's 'cos they put your dashes on sdrawkcab :P

I spotted another D8 estate the other weekend, it was parked up so I had a look - looked like its driver didn't give a dam 'cos the outside was a mass of dings and scrapes  , inside was perfect tho...

3 D8s and a D9... and it's not something I've come across... yet...
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Very common fault judging by the examples I've seen down the scrappers. I made a small improvement to mine via no more nails + brick but of course I don't actually want to stick it down around the extreme edges for fear it won't deploy.

Replacement airbag units are available from scrapyard/ebay/dealer and, allegedly, not overly difficult to fit.

Ok as i said i would have a go at sticking it down with contact adhesive. used evo stick and a brick and it went down really well.
On the way back from my nightshift in oxford i noticed that most of it had come back up again. Going to bed now with one on me.
