406 estate roof rails

Post by waj1234 »

Did the 406 estate ever come without roof rails as an option? I just thought it would look better on my sri without them just like the MG ZT-T looks better without them compared to the rover 75 tourer.

Will they be easy to remove and is there a kit to plug the holes of any sort or is it a no no due to maybe making it liable to water leaking?

The rails were standard, and while you could pull them off if you were inclined to spend a lot of time messing about getting the head lining off, you'd need to find some way of covering and sealing the holes

Shame as I think the estate would look nicer without them but since the were totally standard there will be no official hole plugging kit so could be tricky to make something nice enough looking never mind being able to seal them.

Cheers mjb. Can you tell I have time on my hands lol.

Another reason why I bought a 406 estate instead of a V70. Loads of them didn't have roof rails. I mean what's the point in that?? How do you carry fence panels, double matresses, kids etc....

Now if you'd said you want to paint the rails silver.... 8)

I agree they are usefull but it's something I have never used myself.

I am thinking of selling the sri estate to buy a diesel, maybe even a saloon will do me and may try to do a swap if possible. The sri is a lovely car with loads of power but I towed a caravan for the first time this summer and a diesel will do it better. Just a shame I have pit money into it with cambelt and a new clutch as will never get it back
