Anyway of increasing boot closure resistance??

Discuss the 406's Bodywork stuff in here (what parts fit what, what can be interchanged with what etc etc).

Anyway of increasing boot closure resistance??

Post by plod »

Got the car back from bodyshop today after partial respray, which included painting and fitting of boot spoiler I got off Mountain on here.
Anyway, first time I closed boot, it came down with some right force, as I guess I got used to exerting a certain amount of force to close it, and with the added weight of the spoiler, caught me out big time.
I guess it is merely a case of re-educating myself to do it correctly now, but let's face it, you just do it automatically and don't really think about it do you?

Yeah, you will just have to take account of the extra weight, in the old days there was a torsion bar that could be re-tensioned to give a stronger resistance to closing, these days there are usually just gas struts or small coil springs.

Gas struts, might be worth changing them but at 20 quid a pop it's a bit of an expensive gamble. Try leaving your hand in the way to cushion the blow...

405's had long springs and you could adjust the mounting location near the rear seat to adjust the closing force. Not too sure what the setup is on the 406 as haven't needed to have a look yet.
