Bonnet release

Post by humanfly »

Hi guys,

I had a look and couldn't find a similar topic, so apologies if the answer to this query is elsewhere on the forums.

I have a V plate D9 estate, and I have a problem with the bonnet release mechanism. I've only had the car a few months, and haven't needed to open the lid until now as I need to replace a bulb. The first issue is; when I pull the lever in the footwell, there is no audible signal that the catch has been released, but if I pull on the bonnet afterwards it will open a little, revealing the catch. Here's the real problem though; the catch is a little rusty and doesn't really move in any direction, it only bends when force is applied. I don't have a manual, so could someone please tell me how the catch is released, i.e. In what manner must it be manipulated - up, down, sideways and up? :|

Thanks.

Assuming it's similar in design to a D8, the release catch is done by pulling up on the lever. I.e. palm on the bonnet and fingers moving towards palm to release catch. As you've got the bonnet popped a little bit, try and spray some WD40 onto the catch and allow it to soak in for a little while.

OK HBC, cheers, I'll try that then. It'll be so much easier knowing which way the lever is supposed to go!
