BTW, the spring I fitted was from a plastic clothes peg, the wooden ones we have are too small in diameter.

i think, this not gonna work properly
the "L" legs of that cloth spring not going like OUTSIDE, they going like INSIDE. better thing to fix this problem is spring from hair clipper

Mine works perfectly every time.
The spring on mine could do with replacing as it's a bit weak now with the rust, but I don't care, my car will be sold next week.

Genius! Finaly! the only way mine opens is to pull th lever, walk to the back, push the right edge of the flap, walk back and then pull the lever again.

I had the experiance of buying a new to me D9 for 2000 with fuel light on... got the petrol station and the damn flap would not open!
Looks like ill have to try this spring fix, but do 384 miles before I need to fill up

Yup, mine upped and died just recently, but thanks to this thread I had the savvy to butcher a clothes peg and bodge that mofo. Sorted ^_^

this is were i put my peg spring, i took the torx screw out, bwnt the spring so one pin was sticking outwards
