Aero Wipers?

Discuss the 406's Bodywork stuff in here (what parts fit what, what can be interchanged with what etc etc).

I bought a pair of these from ebay and cost a princely sum of ....£14.98 for the two a week back. Easy to fit initially but I was getting areas where the wiper wasn't maing any contact.  Have been bending (I mean tuning) the blade and now it's a near enough perfect (ooooh). I also figured out that the rubber spoiler is actually facing upwards instead of downwards so removed the end caps, pulled the two halves of the spoiler off and then reversed them. Had to make a total of 4 very small and easy little cuts into the spoiler rubber so that they would fit into the plastic holder without an obvious twist.

So on the whole, I'm now very happy given the price. Will update on how the actual rubber blade performs as it it most probably has different rubber endurance properties to Bosch (which I think look more grey than black).

If they don't work well in the next few months, I'll change them for Bosch super+ (the passenger side is curved against AND up the screen which worked perfectly for my S4).

Uhm it's supposed to face upwards! Just like a plane's wing except upside down, that way the air passing over it creates a vacuum underneath pulling it down onto the screen

It's a valid point - I did think about that BUT, I think it is actually more effective when used as an air dam and the force of the air against a almost vertical surface creates the force against the screen... will investigate further!!

I'm still not convinced. My main reason is that for the Bernoulli effect (wing or reverse wing) to take effect, you need air passing at different speeds in a single direction which then results in low/high pressure differentials. This is the case with most decent spoilers on racing cars or retractable spoilers on aircraft wings. As the wiper blade design has only one path for the air to move along, there is just resistance (drag) in the opposite direction of travel i.e. the angle of incidence of the windscreen.... sure, there is turbulence, micro-eddies and the blade is forced against and up the screen hence the need for having the curvature of the spoiler as perpendicular to the windscreen as possible - but no Bernoulli effect.

I think the designers tried to integrate a simple spoiler into the design of the aeroblade and so designed in a 'spoiler' or air dam.

(I could of course be wrong!) :?

Crikey yeah I completely forgot that air had to move over both sides, as it does on 'normal' spoilered blades... Hm

I had a good look at mine earlier today, and have seen why it leaves a small pool at the bottom of the windscreen - the blade isn't touching around the sides of the mount! Grrrrr! Still, even though it's poorer than the standard ones at low speed in light rain, it's soooo much better in heavy rain and doesn't float somewhere over the window at >50mph, so I'm still reasonably happy with them.

I ummmdd and ahhhhdd over this for ages and in the end just went for the safe Bosch Super+'s.

I know they will work well and they are half the price of the bosch or Valeo aero wipers.

£14.98 without having to leave home. A very strong argument.
