Rattling from doors

I have had my trusty 406 for some time now and what a problem this is! A rattle from the drivers door. Can anyone help as it's really anoying when you drive to south spain alot

Does it still rattle if you take the door card off?

It's possible that some work has been done within the door to a lock or switch etc and there could be a broken clip or something rattling around in the cavity. Similarly it can be possible for broken window bits (shattered cubes of glass) to stay in there follwing a broken window.
I must say I never had any rattles from my doors, the rest of the car however.......
