Changing seat belt pre tensioner plugs?

I've got the leather going in at the mo, and one of the things I noticed is the plug for the seat belt pre tensioners is completely different from the velour I had on there compared to the leather.
The originals have a flatish insert in the plug, whereas the leather has a round one, so can't even just change the case of the plug.
So..waht have people been doing to get round this problem???
I've got one plug come, and hoping the second one is coming, but now it's a case of getting them changed.
Ordinarily, I'd cut the wiring, solder and heatshrink it back up, but my mate who is a mechanic, says it's all down to resistance within the wiring as to how they work, and by doing what I planned, I could bugger it up and prevent or accidentily set them off by doing so.
